Our History

Opening this school wasn’t a business move. It was a lifelong dream for Kyle Atkinson — forged through decades of military service and hardened on the mats through competitive Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts. Kyle also holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Health Sciences, bringing both practical experience and academic knowledge into every class.

But even with all that — the Air Force, the education, the competition — Kyle learned consistency beats talent…growth comes from discomfort.

Those lessons drove Kyle to open Lighthouse Jiu Jitsu in 2025 right here in Prattville. And that same mindset drives everything we do now.

The Lighthouse Jiu Jitsu name derives from a family maiden name. A lighthouse illuminates threats to ships and allows safe passage. Lighthouse Jiu Jitsu will help you overcome threats and find safe passage in life. We’re building more than fighters. We’re building a culture — a safe, focused, family-first space. Time to step into the light.

Meet the Lighthouse Jiu Jitsu team

This isn’t just a group of instructors. This is a family.

Each one brings something different to the fight — from Air Force service to collegiate athletics — but the mission is the same: to lead, to teach, and to serve.
